Fashion is a reflection of things happening in the world. Trends go by so fast, sometimes you do not have time to get used to them. We have just fallen in love with skinny jeans, but now they are apparently icky and in bad taste. But there are still things that can grow up with us, develop, fall in love, achieve new things. They are timeless and impervious to fashion ‘canceling’ itself.

THINGS THAT LAST
- help you create a sustainable wardrobe.

Let us look at some items that have found a lasting place in wardrobes of Yulia Man (RE / MARKA founder) and Ksenia Gerts (RE / MARKA designer).
Yulia Man:
"Sustainable clothing is items that are already in your wardrobe, and you have had fun wearing them for years. I still own some things I bought when I was in university, and that was back in 2002:) I got most of them when "luxury" used to mean "quality". Unfortunately, after the crisis of 2008 quality got steadily worse even for luxury brands, and now it is getting harder and harder to find something comparable."

Light. Bubbly. Pink. “Pinko” dress, bought in 2009. It reminds me of ABBA stage costumes and the style of Madonna’s Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). For years, it has remained a magic wand of sorts for me. It accompanied me in many dramatic life events.
Vintage Pinko dress, 2009, RE / MARKA bomber with colorful recycled second hand inserts, with classic sleeve.
A Moschino classic. A little black dress with a white collar, 1920s style. It has not failed me once since 2000. The last season brought the school theme back into the spotlight again. The dress will be trendy again, as long as I keep myself in shape:)
Ksenia Gerts:

"One of my wardrobe mainstays was born out of an experiment. I tested a trench coat fabric, but unfortunately, it was not up to the requirements. The double-layer fabric stained at the seams, and that was a production hazard. I had to reject it. But the test trench coat was so bright and vibrant thanks to its yellow color that I decided I had to tinker with it and keep it.

I ordered a batch of rain slickers, and there was one extra hood in it. Instead of throwing it away, I sewed it onto my "Frankenstein". That was how it got its waterproof hood. No one was likely to buy it even with such an upgrade, so I kept it. I have been wearing it on and off during rainy seasons for the last 6 years. It is valuable and unique for me in that even with all its imperfections, it proved to be durable and became a favorite of mine."

There are many ways to buy less and still look stylish. Things that last are a good way to learn how to curate your wardrobe responsibly. If something looks good on you, but you have already got tired of that piece, do not throw it out; keep it instead. Maybe, if you feel an irresistible urge to go shopping, you will remember it, try it on and feel you can wear it again.

It is easy to take little steps on the way to preserving our natural resources.
