Trench coats have already become a permanent item in our wardrobe.
Numerous number of trench coat replicas have been created through the years, but there is always a gap for a new iconic model, the gap RE / MARKA has filled.
У нашего плаща интересная история.

Its evolution started with a search for a form.

What should it be like?
Long or shortened?
Double - or single-breasted?
Straight or fitted waist?

how to combine femininity and brutality in one thing

It was crucial for us to find shapes and forms that would be in line with our brand values: versatility, sustainability and aesthetics.

The versatility requirement was more o less clear to us.
From the outset, our objective was to make a unisex trench coat that would look good on any type of a bode.

We could just make it look like rectangular pieces of fabric sewn together, but we kept on looking for the shape and the model we needed.

There was an idea to use laces for fitting, but eventually we rejected it. Then we decided to add detachable sleeves instead, in order to make our trench coat more functional and make one piece serve various looks.

Within a few months of work, our trench coat model has become a field for experiments. We used calico, then we switched to whipcord. Changes happened every day, but the solution was found out of the blue.
One day, sorting through second hand clothes collected all over the city, we found a flawless prototype: a sand-colored classic trench coat with the right length and size proportions. It was waiting for its time to shine at the bottom of the box.

Frankenstein, as we called it, became the starting point for further development, reaffirming our idea of seamless second hand use as a hard requirement for the trench coat design. Taking one item as a base, borrowed straps from another one, fabric texture from the third we felt unbelievably inspired when we combined all that with new eco-friendly materials.
That intricate detail was the most labor-intensive.

It was a true artistic challenge.

We needed weeks, even months of testing to make the flounce beautiful, free-flowing, with sensual curves and as dense as we wanted.

It was a great challenge even for experienced designers to make a template. The software just refused to make our perfect flounce; it was either bulging or the folds were all wrong.

There were dozens of templates, the trial and error seemed to never end. But we persevered.
Finally, we made the template by hand on tracing paper.

And it was perfect! Just like fifty other elements of our trench coat.

Looking on and participating in the trench coat evolution and considering all the tasks we had to accomplish, it was crucial for us to stay true to our initial vision, which provides for uncompromising approach to quality, love for style, respect to the world and a person.
We had to incorporate small details from second hand items without compromising our design, think about all material properties and remember that no two second hand items are similar, its creating something new and unique every time.

When we had our basic conceptual needs covered, it was time to think about beauty and harmony. We wanted to add soft, sexual lines to our straight detachable sleeves. That was how we got flounces and another challenge for our team.
